No, I’m Not Crazy

Posted on the November 9th, 2009 under Family by Elle

I’ve been getting a little bit of teasing lately because the other day I made my own laundry detergent. Sounds crazy, I know. I’m not even sure why I came up with the idea, but I was at the computer wasting time as usual working hard and I Googled it. I found this site and it looked so cheap and easy that I knew even I could do it. But I didn’t think too much about it until I mentioned it to my husband. He was so skeptical I just had to prove it would work.

It’s 3 simple ingredients. The Borax was $3.49, Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda $2.99 and 3 bar of Ivory Soap were $1.49

1/2 cup of Borax

1/2 cup Washing Soda

1 bar of Ivory Soap shredded

mix them all together

until it looks like this, about 5 minutes.

That’s it. I put it in a container and use 1 heaping Tablespoon per wash. My laundry is clean and smells fresh.

The real test will be in the next week or so as J-Man starts wearing clothes washed with the “new” detergent. He has eczema and some detergents bother him. I’ll let you know.
